Wooden slat or thin metal garden sheds are not bear proof. If a bear can get its claws in between gaps, it can easily tear into a container or structure. Metal garden sheds are easily crumpled if it wishes to gain access to garbage bins or other attractants stored inside.
Pictured above is a DIY version of a bear proof container using metal flashings around solid wood construction and metal crossbars to latch the doors: any gaps should be less than 3/8". Click on this link for more ideas and BEAR RESISTANT ENCLOSURE PLANS.
MAKE YOUR GARBAGE BIN BEAR RESISTANT. Secure the bin to a solid structure or a tree so bears can’t knock it over or roll it away and “work” it.
Using a bungie cord to keep your bins closed may keep out the crows, and although it may stall the process for a minute or two, it simply won’t be effective with a hungry, persistent bear. VIDEO
